#12MoW – February’s Subject

Welcome to 12 Months of Writing!
As described in my last post, I’m setting myself (and inviting others to join) a writing challenge designed to stretch unused writing muscles and limber up the creativity. Each month a new topic will be set, and each Friday we’ll write something based around that subject.
Without further ado, it’s time to announce the first subject which will be covered throughout February. And that subject is…
*drum-roll*
WEALTH
The other day, I was listening to the radio when the song Street Life, by The Crusaders, came on. One verse in particular caught my imagination:
There’s always love for sale
A grown up fairy tale
Prince charming always smiles
Behind a silver spoon
And if you keep it young
Your song is always sung
Your love will pay your way
Beneath the silver moon
With this still on my mind as I prepared to think about February’s subject, I decided wealth would be a suitable starting point. For the purposes of this challenge, ‘wealth’ encompasses all aspects of personal, social or monetary wealth, as well as poverty in all of its forms.
The schedule of writing will be as follows:
Friday 7th February: a haiku or senryu
Friday 14th February: a drabble
Friday 21st February: a poem of any form
Friday 28th February: a flash fiction story
Once you’ve written your piece, it will be a simple matter of linking your post to my blog post on that day. And by the way, the Friday is a goal, not a deadline. If you want to write a haiku/senryu, you can post it and link it at any point between 7th and 13th February. So don’t worry if your creative juices are flowing a little slow on a Friday!
I hope everyone who wants to take part has fun with this. See you next Friday! 😉
P.S. #12MoW is the trendy new hashtag you can use when blogging, tweeting, facing, instagramming, and whatever else it is that happens on social media. I have a feeling it will trend instantly!

Ooh, this is a great start to the 12 Months of Writing! And I can already feel my muse tapping at my shoulder. I think I can manage a haiku this week—off to consult my muse!

Good topic. It can go a lot of directions. As an econ major, I’d probably start with Adam Smith.

Not what I’m starting with, but I’d love to see your take on the Father himself 😀

You know, haiku is a form I might be able to manage on my current schedule! 😀

My haiku will go up on the 7th, though I probably won’t be near the internet. Feel free to go there and steal the URL.
